Ken Ball, LRR August, 2010 Work to rule is a labor practice that is sometimes employed as a means of workers lodging dissatisfaction with employers. In that situation employees remain on the job and carefully perform each and every task that is explicitly associated with the work position. However, the employee ceases to perform any ancillary tasks that may be related to the core duties associated with the job. Work to rule in the public school setting can take on a different yet similar connotation. While we are not lodging dissatisfaction with the employer we are in fact advocating doing our jobs to the best of our ability giving an honest days work for an honest days wages, and yet, not going above and beyond. In doing so we can show a true picture of the necessary work force needed to get the work done properly and without breaking the labor laws. |
